Tigers Ride Pitching Chaos, Torkelson’s Blast to Series Win Over Rangers
The Detroit Tigers used a pitching strategy that worked for them in 2024 to secure a 7-1 win over the Texas Rangers on Sunday. With starting pitcher Casey Mize on the injured list, the Tigers employed a six-reliever rotation to cover the nine innings.

Torkelson’s Homer
The Tigers’ hitters initially struggled against Rangers starter Jack Leiter, who was dominant through the first four innings. However, in the fifth inning, Leiter’s velocity dipped, and he started to miss his spots. Spencer Torkelson took advantage, hitting a 102-mph home run off a hung slider. The homer was Torkelson’s sixth of the season.
Tigers Break Game Open
The Tigers broke the game open with four runs in the seventh inning, chasing Leiter and adding a couple of runs against former Tiger Tyler Alexander. The inning featured RBI hits from Hao-Yu Lee, Kevin McGonigle, and Matt Vierling, as well as a bloop single from Jake Rogers.
The win improves the Tigers’ record to 18-17, with a 12-3 record at home. They have won all five of their series at Comerica Park.
With a six-run lead, the Tigers’ bullpen was able to close out the game with ease, with Kyle Finnegan and Burch Smith pitching the eighth and ninth innings.
