Johnson Remains Undefeated, Tops Summit in Girls Basketball Matchup
Johnson’s girls basketball team continued their perfect season, improving to 14-0 overall and 8-0 in conference play, with a dominant 55-30 victory over Summit in a UCC-Mountain division matchup. The win was fueled by outstanding performances from Jordanna Tarentino and Julia Lettini, who scored 19 and 17 points, respectively.
First Quarter Sets the Tone
The game was essentially decided in the first quarter, as Johnson jumped out to a 13-3 lead and never looked back. Tarentino was efficient from the field, converting eight two-point field goals and adding three free throws to lead all scorers. Lettini also had a strong game, contributing seven two-pointers and one three-pointer in her 17-point performance.
Summit Struggles to Find Offense
Summit, on the other hand, struggled offensively throughout the contest, particularly in the first and third quarters where they managed just three and five points, respectively. Charlotte Yarnall led Summit with 11 points, including five free throws, while Emma Ryan added eight points with two 3-pointers.
Johnson’s Balanced Attack
Johnson’s balanced scoring attack also featured Alisia Hamm with seven points and Elizabeth Fitzharris with five. The team dominated the middle portion of the game, outscoring Summit 29-14 across the second and third quarters to build an insurmountable lead.
Final Quarter Too Little, Too Late for Summit
Both teams scored 13 points in the final quarter, but Johnson’s early advantage proved too much for Summit to overcome. The division leaders maintained their unblemished record, while Summit fell to 6-10 on the season. With the win, Johnson continues to assert their dominance in the UCC-Mountain division.
