Claire Danes Says ‘Little Women’ Director Lied About Reshooting Her Death Scene After She ‘Got a Little Carried Away’

Claire Danes Reveals ‘Little Women’ Director Lied About Reshooting Her Death Scene

Renowned actress Claire Danes has shared a behind-the-scenes story about her experience filming the 1994 adaptation of Little Women. In a recent interview on Good Hang With Amy Poehler, Danes recalled the time she had to reshoot her death scene as Beth March due to her overly enthusiastic performance.

According to Danes, she had extensively researched the illness that her character was suffering from and had gotten “a little carried away” with the death rattle. The intensity of her performance was so great that director Gillian Armstrong had to ask her to reshoot the scene. However, Armstrong did not tell Danes the real reason for the reshoot at the time, instead claiming that Coke had spilled on the negatives of the film.

It wasn’t until recently that Danes discovered the truth behind the reshoot. She joked that her The Beast in Me co-star Matthew Rhys now calls her “Death Rattle Danes” after hearing the story. Danes reflected on her experience, stating that she had already lived a full life by the time she was 11 and had “enough material for four lifetimes.”

The Little Women adaptation, released in 1994, was one of Danes’ early film roles, and she has since gone on to have a successful career in Hollywood. Her commitment to her craft and dedication to her roles have earned her numerous accolades and a loyal fan base.
