San Francisco 49ers cornerback Deommodore Lenoir was embroiled in controversy during the team’s blowout playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday night. In the second half of the game, Lenoir was seen headbutting Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba. The incident unfolded after both players exchanged words, culminating in Lenoir smashing his helmet into Smith-Njigba’s facemask.

Despite the severity of the encounter, officials seemingly missed the incident, and no penalty was called. In a surprising twist, Smith-Njigba later celebrated Seattle’s dominating victory, as the Seahawks triumphed over the 49ers with a score of 41-6.

In the matchup, Smith-Njigba recorded three catches for 19 yards, including a touchdown, securing a strong performance. After the game, his brother, Canaan Smith-Njigba, took to social media to make a cheeky remark directed at Lenoir: “Jax always wanted a little brother to bully. Welcome to the family,” he wrote on X.

Lenoir’s contribution to the game included three tackles; however, the 49ers’ defense struggled significantly against Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold and the rest of the offensive team, ultimately allowing Seattle to rack up 281 total yards while forcing three turnovers.

In a post-game interview, Lenoir maintained that the game’s outcome might have been different had the 49ers been at full strength. “To have them guys back, I mean, it’s gonna be a totally different game,” Lenoir said, as reported by KNBR. “But I mean, we can’t make no excuses. We had enough guys in here to get the job done. So I feel like it just ain’t going our favor today.”

Looking ahead, Seattle’s victory puts them in a position to face the winner of the Los Angeles Rams and Chicago Bears divisional round matchup in the NFC Championship.
