KWASUTH to Install MRI as Governor Procures Modern Equipment
Dr. Ahmed Abdulkadir, the Chief Medical Director of Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (KWASUTH), announced that plans are underway to install a modern Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine at the hospital. This initiative comes as part of a broader effort by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to enhance healthcare facilities across the state.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Ilorin, Abdulkadir revealed that the governor has procured the MRI machine for the hospital, with installation expected to begin shortly. The addition of this advanced technology aims to alleviate the challenges faced by patients who currently travel to other states, such as Ekiti, Oyo, and Lagos, to undergo MRI investigations.
“Many of our patients are left in distress due to the lengthy wait times and the need to travel far for essential imaging services,” Abdulkadir stated. He recounted the story of one patient who was fifteenth in line for an MRI scan, highlighting that eight individuals ahead of her were also from Ilorin.
Historically, KWASUTH’s MRI services have been limited. Abdulkadir noted that the hospital once had access to an MRI machine, but it was a first-generation device supplied during the presidency of former President Olusegun Obasanjo. The new MRI machine is described as “a very sophisticated facility” that promises to greatly enhance diagnostic capabilities and patient care in the region.
Abdulkadir emphasized that the machine would not only improve procedures but also streamline medical record-keeping, which is crucial for effective patient management. “All arrangements have been made, and we anticipate that it will be operational very soon,” he assured.
The Chief Medical Director expressed gratitude towards Governor AbdulRazaq for his commitment to investing in modern medical equipment and healthcare advancements, attributing the progress in ILorin’s healthcare sector to the governor’s ongoing efforts. “For the first time, KWASUTH is experiencing significant upgrades in medical facilities that will benefit both patients and healthcare providers alike,” Abdulkadir concluded.
