Nigeria Aims to Secure Personal Health Data with New Digital Health System Blueprint
The Nigerian government has announced a blueprint for a secure, interoperable digital health system, prioritizing the protection of citizens’ sensitive medical information.
The initiative, driven by the Federal Ministry of Health, aims to create a comprehensive digital health ecosystem based on three core principles: security, interoperability, and data sovereignty. According to Dr. Abdulazeez Abiola Abdulmajeed, a key advisor on this project, these principles would guide the development of health information exchanges, disease registries, and targeted data centres, while shaping the implementation of digital health interventions across the country.
