Republican congressman Byron Donalds, who’s vying to succeed Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, unveiled legislation this week aimed at protecting local water and electricity supplies from the increasing demands of AI data centers. According to Donalds, these massive facilities are devouring massive amounts of power and, in some cases, relying on local water sources for cooling.
Donalds’ plan, which has yet to be formally introduced in the Florida legislature, seeks to impose stricter regulations on the siting and operation of data centers.
