Migrant Workers in Singapore Get AI Training Boost
The Indian Institutes of Technology Alumni Association – Singapore (IITAAS) has partnered with the Migrant Workers’ Centre (MWC) to provide structured digital literacy and AI training to almost 1,000 migrant workers in the city-state.
This move, supported by the Indian High Commission, aims to equip these workers with essential skills to enhance their employability and daily lives. These skills are increasingly in demand, but often inaccessible to migrant workers due to language barriers and limited access to education.
The programme, a significant step towards bridging the gap in digital literacy, will cater to workers from various countries, including India. According to estimates, there are over 160,000 migrant workers in Singapore, with many struggling to adapt to the country’s fast-paced digital landscape.
As workers from India, China, and other countries face increasing competition in the job market, having AI and digital literacy skills can be a significant differentiator. By empowering migrant workers with these skills, IITAAS is not only contributing to their employability but also enhancing their overall quality of life.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed on Sunday marks the beginning of this initiative. The programme will be delivered in collaboration with various stakeholders, including local educational institutions. By providing these essential skills, the IITAAS hopes to foster a more inclusive and digitally literate workforce in Singapore.
