50 Years After a Star Trek Writer’s AI Breakthrough
Belgian computer scientist Joseph Weizenbaum wrote the first chatbot, ELIZA, in 1966. ELIZA could fake conversations by matching user inputs to pre-set responses. This AI milestone foreshadowed the rise of natural language processing (NLP) and conversational AI.
