**Papal Warnings Spark AI Fears: Anthropic Calls for Pause in Development**
AI pioneer Dario Amodei has urged fellow developers to consider a “pause” or “slowdown” in AI advancements, echoing concerns raised by Pope Leo XIV in a recent encyclical. Amodei, CEO of multibillion-dollar AI company Anthropic, believes that continued rapid development risks humans losing control of the technology.
Anthropic has been at the forefront of cutting-edge AI research, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with natural language processing and machine learning. However, Amodei now warns that the pace of progress may be unsustainable. In a statement, he emphasized the importance of prioritizing safety and accountability in AI development.
Less than two weeks ago, Pope Leo XIV published the encyclical **”On the Dangers of a New Tower of Babel”**, which cautioned against the unbridled pursuit of AI advancements. The Pope’s words resonate with Amodei, who sees parallels between the Tower of Babel and the current state of AI development. Both, he believes, pose risks of humanity losing control over their creations.
