H.S. Roundup: Veritas Prep Overpowers Athol Boys Volleyball

The Athol boys volleyball team faced a tough opponent on Tuesday night, losing 3-0 to Veritas Prep Charter School. The Vipers, with a strong and athletic West league team, made quick work of Athol, winning the sets 25-10, 25-14, and 25-12.

Athol’s coach, Jen Mason, attributed the loss to the team’s youth and inexperience. “We are very young,” Mason said. “This is our fifth match. Everybody is learning. We have two returning players on varsity. We are all just coming together and trying to get our drive.” The Bears were also missing their best offensive weapon, Aiden Desreuisseau, who was out with an illness.

Veritas Prep’s Benjamin Lantigua-Torress had a strong performance with nine kills, while Daniel Langone played set up with 25 assists. Athol’s Mason had five kills, and Erick Brito led the defense with eight digs and added five assists.
