Weather Update for Cleveland and NE Ohio on January 17, 2026

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland Media Academy reporter Elizabeth Ruic brings you the latest weather report from the cleveland.com newsroom on Saturday, January 17, 2026.

The day started out cold with temperatures hovering around the low 30s in the morning. Residents bundled up as they braced for winter conditions. However, in the late morning, a sudden and intense snow squall swept through Brooklyn and parts of Cleveland, particularly along the I-480 corridor.

Snow squalls can quickly reduce visibility and create hazardous driving conditions, which made this weather event particularly relevant for commuters and families out and about this weekend. Reports indicated that snowfall accumulation was minimal, but strong winds accompanied the squall, leading to drifting snow and localized whiteout conditions.

Elizabeth Ruic, a dedicated high school student and reporter for the Cleveland Media Academy, provides her insights into the importance of staying informed during such weather phenomena. “It’s vital for everyone to be aware of rapidly changing weather conditions, especially when traveling,” she explained.

The National Weather Service had issued advisories for parts of Northeast Ohio, advising residents to be cautious during the snow squall and to monitor local weather updates throughout the day.

As the afternoon progresses, temperatures are expected to remain in the 30s with possible intermittent snow showers. Residents are recommended to check the local forecast for real-time updates. Elizabeth urges the community: “Stay informed and safe; it’s the best way to enjoy your winter activities!”
