Nancy Pelosi Faces Social Media Backlash at Bob Weir Tribute Event

San Francisco, CA – Former House Speaker and self-proclaimed “Deadhead” Nancy Pelosi drew swift online backlash after appearing at a tribute honoring Grateful Dead co-founder Bob Weir. The event, held on Saturday at San Francisco’s Civic Center, attracted thousands who gathered to celebrate the life of Weir, who passed away earlier this month at the age of 78.

The tribute attracted a mixture of long-time “Deadheads,” musicians, and political figures, including Pelosi, who is 85 years old. During her speech about Weir, she appeared to sing and sway along to the Grateful Dead classic “Ripple,” with musician John Mayer performing on stage. However, parts of her remarks seemed to lack clarity as she reflected on Weir’s legacy.

“Bobby Weir was not just a magician, musician – a magician too – he was a force of nature,” she noted during her address.

Pelosi took the opportunity to deliver a political message about voting, saying, “[Weir] gave me this sign, and I’ll show it today, because I said Bobby really loved democracy, he loved our country.” She raised a sign reading “vote” and encouraged attendees to exercise their rights.

However, her demeanor quickly attracted criticism on social media. One user asked, “Is Nancy Pelosi drunk at the Bob Weir Homecoming?” Others commented on her choice of attire, pointing out that she wore a bright magenta suit while nearly everyone else was dressed in black, with one comment reading, “Nancy Pelosi wearing a very somber magenta on stage at Bob Weir’s funeral.

Some users even questioned Pelosi’s presence at the tribute, particularly in light of her earlier announcement that she would not seek re-election, concluding her decades-long career in Congress. “Why is [Nancy] Pelosi speaking at this Bob Weir memorial?” one asked, while another remarked on their surprise at her singing along with Mayer during the event.

The public tribute also featured performances by folk icon Joan Baez and country singer Wynonna Judd, as reported by FOX 2.

Weir, who succumbed to lung problems following a courageous battle with cancer, passed away on January 10. His family confirmed the news via a heartfelt statement on his Instagram page, expressing deep sadness over his passing.

Nancy Pelosi has not yet commented on the backlash.
