A new challenger emerges in Japan: Mazda’s 6e EV takes aim at Tesla’s Model 3.
Mazda has just launched the 6e, its first electric vehicle, in partnership with Chinese automaker Changan Automobile. The move marks a significant entry into the EV market for the Japanese luxury brand, which aims to take on industry giant Tesla. Specifically, Mazda’s sights are set on the Tesla Model 3, one of the best-selling electric cars globally.
The 6e boasts a range of up to 320 miles (515 kilometers) on a single charge, which is impressive considering its relatively affordable price tag – a mere $38,000 for the base model in the US. However, it’s not just about raw numbers; Mazda is also promising a premium driving experience, with a focus on responsive handling and smooth acceleration.
In contrast, Tesla’s Model 3 starts at $44,990 but offers a more extensive range of up to 373 miles (601 kilometers) on a single charge. While the Model 3 still leads in terms of overall range, Mazda is banking on its new partnership with Changan Automobile to bring costs down for customers. Additionally, Mazda is offering discounted charging via its Supercharger network, which should make long road trips easier and more affordable for 6e owners.
Another key advantage for customers opting for the 6e is that Tesla also covers all servicing costs when you buy a car via a finance plan. With every new arrival in the electric car sector, the stakes are getting higher, but Mazda’s move represents a bold attempt to disrupt the status quo and challenge the Model 3’s dominance.
What this means
What this means is that consumers now have more options when it comes to electric vehicles. The Mazda 6e offers a viable alternative to the Tesla Model 3, with a more affordable price tag and a unique driving experience. As the electric car market continues to grow, expect more brands to enter the fray, and consumers to benefit from increased competition and choice.
