Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis has just dropped a bombshell on the future of work: those with strong STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) backgrounds will be 10 times more effective at harnessing the power of artificial intelligence (AI) than everyone else.
Who’s going to thrive in a world of AI
Hassabis’ statement was a response to concerns from students and young professionals that AI might replace traditional coding and software engineering jobs. But according to him, the opposite is true: having a strong foundation in coding and technical skills will actually be what sets people apart in a world where AI is increasingly prevalent.
AI isn’t here to replace humans
Instead of replacing traditional coding jobs, Hassabis sees AI as a complement to human capabilities.
