America’s most feared enemy revealed by voters… as they lament the existential threat of domestic economic collapse

Russia Takes Top Spot as America’s Biggest Historical Enemy

According to a new survey, **34%** of American voters say Russia is the nation’s biggest historical enemy, narrowly edging out China with 28%. However, the most striking finding from the Daily Mail/JL Partners poll is the widespread concern among voters about a different kind of threat: domestic economic collapse.

While geopolitical rivals like Russia and China get most of the attention, Americans are worried about what’s happening at home. The survey found that 72% of voters believe the country is heading towards an economic crisis or already experiencing one.

Existential Threat Looms at Home

It’s not just a matter of economic woes – it’s an existential threat to the very foundations of American society, says Robert C. Kahn, an economist and expert on the American economy. “When people feel like their economic security is at risk, they start to question the entire system,” he explains. This kind of widespread anxiety can erode trust in institutions and lead to social unrest.

Why Economic Woes Trump Foreign Enemies

So, why do Americans seem to be more concerned about domestic economic collapse than foreign enemies? It’s likely because economic struggles are more immediate and personal, notes Paula Brantner, an economist and expert on income inequality. “People see the effects of economic downturns in their daily lives – unemployment, stagnant wages, and declining purchasing power,” she says.

What this means is that Americans might be more focused on policy solutions that address income inequality, education, and job opportunities rather than foreign policy initiatives aimed at countering Russia or China. As Robert C. Kahn puts it, “The American public is sending a clear message: we need to focus on building a stronger, more resilient economy at home before we can address the threats from abroad.”
