PM Modi’s Special Airport Welcome for UAE President’s Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi warmly welcomed United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in New Delhi on Monday. The leaders embraced at the airport, with PM Modi declaring on X that he went to greet “my brother.” Although the visit was short, lasting only three hours, it is anticipated that they engaged in discussions about mutual interests and pressing global issues.

Sheikh Mohamed’s visit occurs amid escalating tensions in West Asia, which includes strained relations between Iran and the United States, as well as the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs revealed that this visit was at PM Modi’s invitation and reflects the continued momentum of recent high-level engagements between India and the UAE.

This marks Sheikh Mohamed’s third official visit to India since he assumed presidency of the UAE. During this visit, PM Modi graciously presented Sheikh Mohamed with a custom-carved wooden jhula from Gujarat, signifying unity in Gujarati culture. Additionally, the Prime Minister offered a luxurious Pashmina shawl from Kashmir, and a special mention was made of the Kashmiri saffron intended as a gift for Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Al Ketbi, the widow of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, founder of the UAE.

The backdrop of this visit is noteworthy, given a series of high-level dialogues between leaders from both nations, which have fortified bilateral ties through numerous agreements focused on economic cooperation, investment, and energy security. The significance of Sheikh Mohamed’s visit is further emphasized by current developments in West Asia, particularly as US President Donald Trump prepares to unveil Phase 2 of the Gaza Peace Plan.
