We Were Here Tomorrow is more familiar co-op fun

We Were Here Tomorrow: A Familiar yet Exciting Co-op Experience

The popular co-op franchise We Were Here is back with its latest installment, We Were Here Tomorrow. As a seasoned journalist, I had the chance to play the first 30 minutes of the game during PAX East, and I’m excited to share my thoughts on this upcoming title. We Were Here Tomorrow brings a new facility, new abilities, and fresh puzzles to the table, all while maintaining the core elements that fans of the series have come to love.

A Quick Rundown of the We Were Here Series

For those who are new to the We Were Here series, the concept is simple yet engaging. Players are dropped into a location with a partner, and they must work together to solve puzzles and progress through each room. The twist? Players are often split up, and they must use a walkie-talkie to communicate with each other. This mechanic adds a layer of complexity and realism to the game, as players must rely on each other’s descriptions and instructions to overcome obstacles.

We Were Here Tomorrow: New Abilities and Puzzles

In We Were Here Tomorrow, players are given new abilities that must be used in conjunction with their partner’s skills to solve puzzles. The demo I played started with my partner and I being transported to an unknown facility, where we were given our respective tools. I received a grabber that could pick up objects from a distance, while my partner got a device that could create blocks on the ground. The puzzles in We Were Here Tomorrow are challenging and require careful observation and communication to solve.

Communication is Key

Unlike some other co-op games, We Were Here Tomorrow does not feature a split-screen view. When players are separated, they must rely solely on their communication skills to solve puzzles. This leads to some truly innovative and exciting challenges, such as the puzzle where my partner had to describe a set of symbols to me, and I had to use that information to press the correct buttons in the right order.

Conclusion

Overall, I was impressed with what I played of We Were Here Tomorrow at PAX East. The game’s focus on communication and teamwork is a breath of fresh air in the co-op genre, and the new abilities and puzzles add a fresh layer of excitement to the series. I’m looking forward to seeing what Total Mayhem Games has in store for the rest of the game when it releases later this year.

This preview is based on a demo played at PAX East 2026, and the final product is subject to change.
