Survey Says: Citizens Want AI-Powered Government Services, Now
A recent global survey by BCG has revealed that citizens around the world are eager to have AI-powered public services, but governments need to step up their game to meet this demand. The survey, which polled over 20,000 citizens across 17 countries, found that satisfaction with digital government services is declining, and people are looking to AI to make a difference.
More than three-quarters of respondents believe that AI can improve the way governments deliver public services, and over 60% say they’re open to using AI-powered tools to access services like healthcare, education, and transportation. “We’re seeing a huge appetite for AI-powered services that make life easier and more efficient for citizens,” said Seth Klugherz, a BCG partner who led the survey. “Governments have a critical opportunity to modernize their services and meet the evolving needs of their citizens.”
Declining Satisfaction with Digital Services
The survey also found that satisfaction with digital government services is declining, with 40% of respondents reporting a decrease in satisfaction over the past year. “This is a warning sign for governments that they need to do better,” said Klugherz. “Citizens expect more from their digital services, and they’re willing to look elsewhere if they’re not getting it.”
The survey identifies several key areas where AI can make a real difference, including:
