Darius Acuff Jr.’s Draft Stock Takes a Hit, but Other Prospects Shine at 2026 NBA Combine
Just a few weeks shy of the official NBA Draft, the Combine in Chicago provided teams with their last chance to assess the top prospects in person. The 2026 Combine wrapped up its scrimmage sessions on Wednesday, and while some players made a strong impression, others, including highly touted lottery prospect Darius Acuff Jr., fell short.
Acuff’s Disappointing Day
Measuring 6’2″ (with no shoes), 185.8 pounds, and boasting a 6’7″ wingspan, Acuff’s physical attributes were always expected to be impressive. However, on the court, his performance was a different story.
Acuff’s shooting percentage was a lackluster 32% from the floor and a pathetic 20% from three-point range. His 3.8 turnovers per game were a major concern, and his inability to convert in crunch time left scouts shaking their heads.
Other Notable Performances
While Acuff struggled, other prospects caught the eye of teams. Jamal Patel, a 6’10” forward, impressed with his 37% three-point shooting and a strong all-around game that showcased his athleticism and court vision.
Jordan Lee, a 6’8″ point guard, ran the show with ease, dishing out six assists per game while limiting his turnovers to just 2.5 per contest. His ability to create space and find open teammates will undoubtedly make him an attractive pick.
Late-Riser Jalen Brooks Makes Statement
Jalen Brooks, a 6’6″ small forward, came into the Combine with relatively low expectations but left with a newfound sense of confidence. The 20-year-old averaged 14 points per game and shot 42% from beyond the arc, showcasing his range and scoring ability.
Brooks’ improvement in the Combine’s scrimmages was nothing short of remarkable, and it’s clear that he’s caught the attention of several teams. With the right development, he could be a steal in the mid-to-late first round.
The 2026 NBA Combine was filled with ups and downs for the top prospects. While Darius Acuff Jr. took a step back, Jamal Patel, Jordan Lee, and Jalen Brooks made their marks on the league’s decision-makers. The road to the draft is winding down, but it’s clear that these prospects will be crucial players in the league’s future.
