Indiana Jones and the Great Circle’s Nintendo Switch 2 port finally lands, and it’s a surprise improvement on the series’ troubled history with the hybrid console.
Bethesda Softworks hasn’t exactly been known for its smooth sailing with Nintendo Switch 2 ports, but their collaboration with MachineGames on Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is a different story altogether. The long-awaited Switch 2 port of the game is finally here, and I’m pleased to report it’s a solid effort.
A visual feast
Visually, the Switch 2 port is a real treat. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is a looker, with crisp, detailed environments and characters that pop against the game’s lush, stylized backdrop. The 60fps frame rate is silky smooth, making for a genuinely immersive experience that’s hard to fault.
That’s a far cry from some of Bethesda’s previous Switch 2 ports, which have been marred by performance issues and graphical compromises. The company’s partnership with MachineGames seems to have paid off, and the end result is a game that holds up remarkably well to its PS5 and Xbox Series X/S counterparts.
Robust performance and a few tricks up its sleeve
But it’s not all about looks and style – the Switch 2 port also delivers robust performance, with nary a hiccup or stutter in sight. MachineGames clearly had to get creative to make this work on a sometimes finicky console, and the end result is all the better for it.
Some of the most impressive features include the ability to seamlessly switch between 1080p and 720p modes on the fly, allowing players to balance performance and visuals to suit their needs. The game also boasts some clever HD rumble implementation, which adds a new layer of depth to the already-engaging gameplay.
A promising port that still feels like an improvement</hassistant
While it’s not perfect – and some might argue the game still doesn’t quite live up to its full potential on more powerful consoles – the Switch 2 port of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is a notable step forward for Bethesda and MachineGames. With its robust performance, eye-catching visuals, and clever feature set, it’s a must-play for fans of the series and the console itself.
For a company that’s had its fair share of setbacks with Switch 2 ports, Bethesda’s latest effort is a promising sign that they’re getting the hang of things. And with the console’s user base growing steadily, it’s more important than ever for them to deliver quality experiences that meet the high standards set by more powerful platforms.
That might not be possible in every case, but in the case of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, it’s clear that Bethesda and MachineGames have put in the work to create a Switch 2 port that’s genuinely worth playing. Whether it’s enough to convince hesitant fans to give the series another try remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure: it’s a start in the right direction.
