WWE SmackDown recap & reactions: From families to funerals – Cageside Seats

WWE SmackDown Recap: A Missed Opportunity

Friday night’s episode of SmackDown kicked off with an in-ring appearance from The Usos, who are still basking in the glory of their Undisputed Tag Team Championship reign. Jimmy’s mic skills remain on point, but the brothers’ promo was marred by a lackluster crowd response.

The show then shifted its focus to the main event hype for Backlash, featuring a TKO (Tucker & Otis) promo that, well, lived up to its name: it was a crushing blow to the audience’s enthusiasm. The duo’s usual charm and charisma were noticeably absent, leaving fans underwhelmed. With Backlash just around the corner, this lackluster performance won’t exactly have WWE Universe buzzing.

One of the few bright spots was the return of Roderick Strong, who made a surprise appearance in a face-to-face encounter with Sami Zayn. Strong’s fiery personality and unrelenting intensity brought some much-needed energy to the broadcast. It’s about time he’s back in the mix.

A segment involving Sasha Banks‘s attempts to reunite with Alba Fury – Alba being Sasha’s alter ego from her time in NXT – fell flat. Alba’s “debut” felt more like an afterthought, and the crowd’s lack of investment made the whole thing feel forced. It’s unclear what WWE’s plans are for Alba, but this was not the best execution.

Meanwhile, a somber and poignant moment unfolded between Rhea Ripley and Natalya, as they paid their respects to Natalya’s late father, Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart. The heartfelt exchange was a poignant reminder of the personal connections between these characters and their true-life inspirations.

Overall, SmackDown’s pre-Backlash build-up has left a lot to be desired. With a lackluster main event and some missteps in between, this show failed to get fans fired up for the Pay-Per-View event. Here’s hoping the show gets back on track next week.

Main Event Letdown

The show closed with the aforementioned main event hype featuring TKO, who continued to underwhelm. Tucker’s attempts to rally the crowd fell flat, and Otis’s usual goofiness was nowhere to be found. This was a wasted opportunity to build momentum for Backlash, and it’s going to take a lot to get fans back on board.

Backlash Prep Falls Short

With Backlash just around the corner, SmackDown needs to step up its game. The show’s lackluster performance has left many feeling unprepared for the Pay-Per-View event. Hopefully, next week’s episode will offer a more compelling build-up to the big event.
