Don Lemon Warns Trump Will ‘Retrofit’ Laws to Prosecute Him

In a recent interview with Scripps News, former CNN host Don Lemon expressed concerns regarding potential legal actions from the Trump administration following a rejected case by a federal judge. Lemon, who faced scrutiny after attending a protest at a St. Paul, Minnesota church, warned that the Trump administration might attempt to “retrofit” laws to induce prosecution against him.

During the interview with Alisyn Camerota, Lemon articulated his belief that the legal saga is far from over. “It doesn’t matter if there’s no law to fit, they will try to fit or retrofit something or go around a judge and just do it themselves,” he asserted, emphasizing the unprecedented nature of the situation. “I was not a protester. It’s very clear about that. If you look at all the evidence, I’m not a protester,” he added.

Lemon’s recent actions included following and engaging demonstrators who disrupted a church service, sparked by accusations against a pastor for allegedly collaborating with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). As reported, the Justice Department sought to bring charges against him but faced setbacks when a federal magistrate judge dismissed their attempts earlier this month.

Possible Future Legal Actions

“I’m not naive. I think they’re probably going to try again and again,” Lemon stated, reflecting on the repeated efforts by the Trump administration in similar cases involving figures like Tish James and James Comey. “If one doesn’t work, then they try something else,” he lamented, indicating a persisting effort to bring legal challenges against prominent figures.

Defending His Role as a Journalist

Amid the criticisms, Lemon insisted that his presence at the protest was purely journalistic, stating, “If this much time and energy is going to be spent manufacturing outrage, it would be far better used investigating the tragic death of Renee Nicole Good.” The focus of his commentary steered towards the broader implications of media representation and the reactions from the public, especially from criticism stemming from MAGA supporters.

He concluded with a firm stance: “I stand by my reporting,” reinforcing his dedication to his role as a journalist.
