Emergency services launched an urgent search for potential casualties following a fire that engulfed the former White Lion pub in Heywood, Greater Manchester, this evening. The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) was alerted to the blaze shortly before 6 PM on Sunday.

The accident occurred shortly after police attempted to pull over the car on nearby Bolton Road, which ultimately led to the substantial damage at the site and the tragic loss of life.

In response to the latest fire, a spokesperson for GMFRS stated, “We received reports of a fire at a derelict pub on York Street in Heywood just before 6 PM this evening. Firefighters from three engines responded promptly and arrived at the scene to tackle the flames on the first floor of the building. Crews remain on-site to conduct safety inspections and ensure the area is secure.”
