Meet Chad Mumm, the founder of the National Day Calendar, who single-handedly created National AI Day – a celebration now marked by over 100 events around the world.
Chad told me he decided to bypass his own 30,000-application queue to announce National AI Day on December 1, citing the importance of AI in our daily lives. “We just figured having an AI day would be appropriate,” he explained, highlighting the vast impact AI has on everything from healthcare to finance.
From Healthcare to Finance
AI is transforming industries and revolutionizing the way we live. For instance, AI-powered diagnostic tools are helping doctors detect diseases more accurately, while AI-driven chatbots are revolutionizing customer service in the finance sector.
However, despite its significant role in shaping our world, AI also raises several concerns, from job displacement to bias in decision-making processes. As Chad acknowledged, “AI is a double-edged sword, it can do both good and bad, it’s up to us to use it responsibly.”
The Importance of AI Awareness
Chad’s decision to create National AI Day was partly driven by the growing need for AI awareness. As AI becomes increasingly ubiquitous, it’s essential to educate people about its benefits and risks, as well as the importance of adopting responsible AI practices.
The National AI Day celebration, now in its second year, aims to bring people together to discuss AI-related topics, showcase AI innovations, and foster a sense of community among developers, researchers, and enthusiasts.
What this means:
The creation of National AI Day highlights the growing recognition of AI’s impact on society. By celebrating AI, we’re acknowledging its potential to transform industries and improve lives, while also emphasizing the need for responsible AI development and adoption.
As Chad pointed out, “It’s not just about AI, it’s about how we use it to make the world a better place.” By raising awareness about AI and its implications, we can work towards a future where AI enhances human lives without compromising our values and well-being.
