Round Rock Announces MLK Day Office Closures and Commemorative Events

As communities across the nation prepare to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the City of Round Rock has announced a schedule for city office closures and events to commemorate the day. The Baca Center, Municipal Court, and Utility Billing Office will all be closed on Monday, Jan. 19, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Residents should note, however, that while physical offices are closed, utility bills and court-related fines can still be managed through the convenience of online services.

For residents looking to stay active over the holiday, the Clay Madsen Recreation Center will maintain open doors from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., offering a reprieve from the day’s solemn reflection with recreational opportunities. Conversely, the Round Rock Black History Organization, in partnership with the Round Rock Independent School District and with support from multiple city departments, invites the community to partake in the 39th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Walk and Celebration on Saturday, Jan. 17.

The announcement from the City of Round Rock details the march’s starting point at Burke Realty Group, located at 3121 Eagles Nest St., Suite 160. From there, participants will journey to Sweet Home, the Pinnacle of Praise at 3200 Sunrise Road. The march, which encourages public involvement and the display of banners, will culminate in a program set to commence at 2 p.m.

As we approach another January, when the streets of Round Rock will bear witness to the steps of many marching in unity, this local celebration exemplifies a communal aspiration towards progress, reminding us that while the offices may close, the work continues.
